About Us
The bargaining units of OECTA Windsor Occasional Teachers (established in 1984) and OECTA Essex Occasional Teachers (established in 1987) joined together in 1998 following the provincial amalgamation of their respective school boards. Prior to joining OECTA, occasional teachers in Catholic school boards were members of the Ontario Catholic Occasional Teachers Association (OCOTA). OCOTA and OECTA agreed to a merger to better represent occasional teachers in Catholic schools in May of 1991.
The Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association Windsor-Essex Occasional Teachers (OECTA WEOT) bargaining unit currently represents approximately 380 elementary and secondary teachers who work with the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board throughout Windsor and Essex County replacing absent teachers on a daily or long-term basis. All members are certified with the Ontario College of Teachers.
